My entry is a strange width. Is that a problem?
No, it is most of what we do. Terraced and semi detached entries around Lye, Stourbridge and the Black Country were built to whatever suited the plot, and they are frequently narrower at the back than the front. We measure at several points, make the gate to the tightest one and pack the hinge side so the finished gate looks like it was always meant to be there.
Can you make a side gate tall enough to keep people out?
Yes. A waist height gate is a boundary marker, not security. If the point of the gate is to stop people walking down the side of the house, we take it up towards the height of the entry, close the top so there is nothing to climb on and fit a lock rather than a latch. It costs a bit more in steel and it is the difference between a gate and a deterrent.
Do you fit the gate or just supply it?
Both, though nearly everybody wants it fitted. We hang it, set the clearances, fit the latch or lock, check it swings clear of the path and leave it working. A gate delivered to a doorstep is a very different thing to a gate that closes properly on an uneven entry.
What about a gate that opens both ways?
Possible, with the right hinges and the right latch, and useful where a path runs both sides. Tell us at the quote stage, because the hinge type and the frame have to be right from the start rather than changed afterwards.
Can you match an existing gate or railings?
Usually, yes. Send a photo or let us look at what is there and we will match the bar spacing, the top detail and the height so the new gate reads as part of the same set rather than an obvious replacement. Exact matches on very old forged work are harder, and we will tell you honestly how close we can get.
How long does a side gate take?
Small gates move quickly. Once measured, most are made and fitted within a couple of weeks, and the fitting itself is normally an hour or two. If it is urgent because the old one has gone or the property is stood open, say so when you call and we will tell you what we can do.
